Depression is a worldwide acceptance illness due to the cause of failure, disappointments and discouragement. However, why do people have depression? The usual and common source of depression mainly comes from stress, physical illness or maybe genetics.

In Singapore, the rate of depression is about 0.8% - 5.8 % per year while the rate of depression for lifespan is about 1.5-16.4%. Hence, in conclusion, there are an estimated of 5% of the Singaporeans are having depression.

In Singapore, women are likely to have depression than men which the sex ratio is 2:1. The prevalent ones are mostly from married women who has more than three children that is younger than fourteen years old than those women who are not married. In men, those are who are single, divorced or widowed are likely to have depression.

There are also people who are lower income group who has depression because they are worried about their income is not enough for their daily life. Research also shows that people who are retired, unemployed or lonely, are most likely to diagnose with mental disorder. If you think you are having most or one out the few symptoms above, it is time to reduce your anxiety.

There are a few alternatives to minimize your depression. Please follow closely because it helps on reducing your anxiety.

Firstly, you should have a schedule of having regular physical exercise such as running, swimming, asking out a group of your friends to have a soccer, basketball, tennis ball match, etc. As said earlier on, loneliness is one of the factors that make you feeling down. Physical exercise is good for your mental mood because it releases endorphins which are capable lifting up your low spirits. If you had a hard time finding people, why not running on a treadmill in the gym?

Secondly, do not think about the things that makes you unhappy. Think of a brighter side of your life, nobody would prefers to live in the past. Look forward and many surprises are waiting for you. Have an optimistic and positive mind will makes you happier instead of saying negative words like €I am useless in this world€.

Thirdly, you would want to consider taking a break for travelling. Travelling is one of the ways to reduce tension. This is because you temporary let go of all things you had in your country and enjoy yourself. Joining tours from tour agency with busy travelling schedule will make you forget the unhappiness.

Lastly, try to write diaries or online blogs. Do not keep everything to yourself. For any case that your friends and families are not with you 24/7, this is the immediate way to reveal your feelings. You can write notes to yourself as to encouragement as if you are talking to your beloved friend.

The last few things to note for depression patients are that try to avoid alcohol, making major decision and suicidal. Alcohol will not make your depression better, instead it will become worse. As for making major decision, it is best not to do so because it needs a mind that is rational, calm and objective. Suicidal is definitely a No-No. This leads when someone is feeling helpless and hopeless.

If the advice does not help, it is better to consult a doctor with immediate effect. All you need to do is to listen to your doctor and try not to make it worse.
