How to Rig a Sturgeon Pole
- 1). Spool a 7- to 8-foot, heavy-action rod and reel with 30- to 50-pound test fishing line.
- 2). Cut a 24-inch piece of line and set it aside.
- 3). Slide a heavy sinker onto the end of the fishing line. The sinker should weigh at least 1 ounce. In rivers with strong current, the sinker may need to be two or three times heavier -- or more -- to keep the bait on the bottom.
- 4). Tie a Palomar knot to connect a barrel swivel to the end of the main line. Use the same knot to connect the 24-inch piece of line to the other end of the swivel.
- 5). Tie a hook ranging in size from 3/0 to 6/0 to the end of the leader.
- 6). Attach a minnow or night crawler to the hook.
