How to Bleed a Clutch on an S-10

Things You'll Need

Instructions

1

Fill the master cylinder with a DOT-3 brake fluid. This is the grade recommended for the S-10.
2

Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Have an assistant depress the clutch pedal all the way while you loosen the bleed screw with a wrench. Push one end of a tube over the bleeder fitting and the other end into a drain pan to catch the fluid. Tighten the bleed screw and release the clutch pedal. Note: Older models have an Allen bolt on top of the cylinder instead of a bleed screw, so loosening requires an Allen wrench. There is also no way to catch the fluid on the older models.
3

Alternate between your assistant depressing the clutch pedal while you loosen the bleed screw and tightening the bleed screw while the clutch pedal is released. Continue to do this until all air is evacuated from the system. You will know the air is all out when you no longer see bubbles coming out of the tube.
4

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Refill if necessary.
