Wine Refrigerator Installation
- 1). Measure the dimensions of the space where you will be installing the refrigerator. This is a commonsense approach that is easily overlooked and can cause serious problems. For example, large wine refrigerators can be just as big as a standard refrigerator. Make sure your doorways, stairwells and any other area you will have to carry your refrigerator through are large enough. This step is not necessary if you're going to purchase a small counter-top version.
- 2). Verify the weight specification of the shelf or counter you will be placing a counter-top wine refrigerator on. Even small wine refrigerators can be heavy. Add another eight to twelve bottles worth of weight and you can easily reach past 50 pounds in some cases. Not all shelves and counter-tops are constructed to handle this type of weight. Make sure the spot you are using is strong enough to prevent the refrigerator from crashing through and falling on the floor.
- 3). Locate the nearest three-pronged outlet to the spot where you will be placing the wine refrigerator. In most cases there should be one close by as wall outlets are commonplace. This will be your power source. You may need to use an extension cord if the nearest outlet cannot be reached by the refrigerator's power cord.
- 4). Place the wine refrigerator in its designated spot and leave at least six inches between its back and any other obstruction, such as a wall or other large appliance. The back of the wine refrigerator has a vent that needs space to function properly. Obstructing the vent can cause the refrigerator to malfunction and make it impossible for optimal temperatures to be maintained.
