How to Use Nikon Coolscan III With Windows Vista
- 1). Plug the Nikon Coolscan III into a surge protector. Switch the power button on the scanner to the on position and connect the scanner to your Windows Vista computer using the cord provided.
- 2). Insert the installation disc provided with the Nikon Coolscan III into the CD or DVD drive of your computer if the computer runs a 32-bit Vista operating system. When the installation screen automatically launches, follow the directions to install the Coolscan III to your system.
- 3). Download SilverFast or VueScan to your computer if your computer runs a 64-bit version of Vista. You can find SilverFast online at the SilverFast website and VueScan at the Hamrick website (see Resources.)
- 4). Go to the folder where you downloaded SilverFast or VueScan. Double click the icon for the software and follow the instructions to install it to your computer.
- 5). Launch the Nikon, SilverFast or VueScan software by double clicking the desktop icon you created during setup, or by going to "Start," "All Programs," and clicking the program name in the list.
- 6). Connect any of the adapters provided with the Nikon Coolscan III to the front of the unit. Adapters just slide into the hole on the front of the Coolscan III and snap into place. Once the adapter is in place, feed the photo or negative that you would like to scan into the slot on the adapter until the Nikon Coolscan III recognizes the photo or negative and starts pulling the photo or negative in automatically.
- 7). Wait while the Nikon Coolscan III scans the photo, which may take several seconds. Once the photo has scanned, remove the photo from the adapter, go to "File" and choose "Save" to save the scanned image to a folder on the computer's hard drive.
