How to Get Rid of Bees on a Hummingbird Feeder
- 1). Install a bee guard on your hummingbird feeder. These are small screen- or mesh-type pieces that fit over the drinking holes to prevent bees and wasps from drinking the nectar, but hummingbirds can still reach it because of their long tongues. You should be able to find bee guards at most garden centers.
- 2). Provide the insects with their own feeder. This may be an easier solution than trying to get rid of them altogether. A feeder in a sunny location will likely attract more insects than one in a shady location. An alternative would be to set out a small piece of meat to draw wasps away from the feeder, since they are carnivorous.
- 3). Confuse the insects. If you relocate the feeder by moving it several feet, the insects may not be able to find it. A more drastic solution would be to take down the feeder for a few days, then hang it up in a new location.
