How to Remove an Old Oil Filter From a John Deere Mower

    • 1). Locate the oil drain plug near the base of the oil dipstick on the John Deere mower engine. Unscrew the drain plug with the crescent wrench and allow all the old oil to drain out into the oil drain pan.

    • 2). Tighten the drain plug back in once all the oil has drained out.

    • 3). Firmly grasp the oil filter located on the side of the engine block next to the oil dipstick. The oil filter is the size of a half of a pop can. Rotate the oil filter counterclockwise until the filter comes off.
