Specifications for the Cross Bars in the 2000 Honda CR-V
- The first step to accessing the crossbars is to remove the wheels. Use a wheel wrench to loosen the lug nuts on all four wheels. Place a jack underneath the CR-V and raise the vehicle to a comfortable height. Remove the lug nuts from the wheels and, carefully, lift off all of the wheels from the CR-V. Do not lose any of the lug nuts, as they will be used to reattach the wheels.
- You will be able to adjust all of the nuts and bolts using a torque wrench. Adjust all of the front crossbar nuts to 29 foot-lbs. or 39 Nm using the torque wrench. Once the nuts have been tightened, you will need to tighten all of the bolts as well. Adjust the bolts so that they are all at 29 foot-lbs. or 39 Nm as well. Finally, adjust the crossbar stabilizer bar to 28 foot-lbs. or 38 Nm with the torque wrench.
- The specifications for the rear crossbar are different than for the front crossbar, but the process is the same. Use the torque wrench to tighten or loosen all of the rear crossbar nuts to 29 foot-lbs. or 29 Nm. Adjust the stabilizer bar nuts to 22 foot-lbs. or 29 Nm. Locate the clamp bolts on both sides of the rear crossbar and adjust the bolts to 16 foot-lbs. or 22 Nm.
- Make sure that the crossbars on your CR-V follow these specifications. Failure to do so may damage the cross bar. If the nuts and bolts are too tight, the crossbar may crack or break. If the nuts and bolts are too loose, the crossbar may move around too much, causing it to break. Be very careful when working underneath a raised vehicle as it can fall and seriously injure you. Consider using jack stands to support the CR-V.
