Edelbrock Carburetor Information
- Edelbrock's Performer series carburetors are designed to give dependable and consistent performance for day-to-day driving. These carburetors use metering rods and are unaffected by backfires. This avoids the necessity of replacing blown power valves as with carburetors manufactured by others. The metering rods can be changed to optimize air and fuel delivery, all without having to remove the carburetor or risk fuel leaks. The body of the carburetor resists waping, and can handle both gasohol and blended fuels. The Performer line of carburetors is available with either a manual or electric choke and with a cubic feet per minute (cfm) rating of 500, 600, 750 or 800.
- Edelbrock's Thunder series AVS line of carburetors is designed for high-performance street engines and delivers fuel faster than the Performer series. The key feature with these carburetors is the adjustable valve secondary, or AVS, feature, which allows for simple and accurate adjustment of the spring-loaded secondary valves with a single screw. Adjusting the secondary valves allows them to open earlier or later to suit the particular needs of the engine, which means more power where the engine needs it. As with the Performer line, Thunder series carburetors are available with either a manual or electric choke. These carburetors are available with either 500, 650 or 800 cfms.
- Edelbrock produces two marine carburetors, one with a cfm rating of 600 and the other with a 750 cfm rating. Both carburetors comply with all U.S. Coast Guard safety standards. These carburetors are design for use only in marine applications, so they do not feature vacuum ports. The exterior shafts and the single pump arm are coated with Teflon for maximum corrosion protection from saltwater, and the cast surfaces are iridited. Both marine carburetors are available only with an electric choke.
- Except for the marine carburetors, all of Edelbrock's carburetors are produced with a chrome finish that Edelbrock calls EnduraShine. The most obvious benefit of this finish is that it looks great under the hood, but the EnduraShine finish is also extremely durable. Cleaning the finish is quite simple, as foreign deposits have a difficult time adhering to the finish.
- Although each of Edelbrock's carburetors are designed to run right out of the box, they are simple to adjust to meet the needs of the particular engine. A secondary air velocity valve ensures that the carburetor functions smoothly when the throttle is opened. Each carburetor is made from aluminum rather than zinc, which disperses heat faster and helps to avoid vapor lock. The throttle linkage fits most application right from the factory, and adapters are available if necessary. All of Edelbrock's carburetors are designed to fit both square-bore and spread-bore intake manifolds, which avoids having to change the intake manifold to fit the carburetor. Finally, all of Edelbrock's new carburetors feature a one-year manufacturer's warranty, and Edelbrock's reconditioned units come with a 30-day factory warranty.
