How to Remove a Porsche 924 Dash

    • 1). Remove first the negative then the positive leads to your battery with an appropriately sized socket to loosen the bolt clamp on each.

    • 2). Pull outward on the horn pad on the steering wheel and use a screwdriver to remove the wire connecting the horn to the wheel.

    • 3). Match up a socket to fit the nut holding on the steering wheel. Line the wheels up perfectly straight with the wheel, then use a ratchet to remove the nut, spring washer and steering wheel.

    • 4). Find the three connectors for signaling, wiper and ignition lock wiring under the steering column. Unplug all three. Identify your steering column's switch assembly and use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the four mounting screws. Remove it from the area. Wrap masking tape around each wire end and mark each wire for easy reassembly.

    • 5). Use a 6 mm Allen socket and extension to remove the head bolt from the steering column, accessible through a hole in the underside of the column. Remove the plastic spacer and steering column cover.

    • 6). Reach behind the center console and separate all your wiring from the back of the instrument panels and wiring harnesses, wrapping with tape and marking each side of each wire uniquely for easy reconnection later. Remove the wiring harness cluster from behind the console.

    • 7). Remove the two screws on the instrument panel and the dash panel will snap out. Disconnect any remaining connections behind the panel that you may have missed.

    • 8). Snap off the faceplate for the heater's controls, then remove the radio according to its manufacturer's specifications.

    • 9). Remove the six screws holding the center console to the dash: two hex screws under the ashtray, two under the top lip of the console, holding down the dash, and one on each side of the console. Pull the console gently from the dash panel area.

      Slide out the glove compartment after removing the screws holding it in place around the interior of the box. Use a screwdriver to remove the wire connector for the glove box lamp, in the back of the box.

      Pull the center speaker grille straight up and pry it out of its position, removing the speaker wire from the back. Remove the nut behind the speaker that supports the center portion of the dashboard.

      Pull all the dash vents toward you individually and they should pop out.

      Remove the three screws from each sun visor, then the three screws holding each A-frame trim panel to the A-frame. Once these side panels are removed, the final two screws -- one on each end -- will be revealed. Unscrew them and release your dashboard from its post.
