How to Replace an Auger Belt on Craftsman Snow Blower
- 1). Remove the attachment pin. Take out the cotter pin and remove the attachment pin by sliding it out of the two side plates. Remove the remnants of the existing belt. If the belt is intact, push the lift handle to increase the slack in the belt.
- 2). Swing the idler arm over to the left side. Place the auger belt around the rear pulley and between the two idler arm pulleys. The "V" shape on the belt should seat in the grooves of the pulleys. The auger and rear pulley are perpendicular to the two idler pulleys; twist the belt a quarter turn to get the belt to seat in all four pulleys.
- 3). Reattach the attachment pin. Align the holes in the mounting plates and side plates. Insert the pin through the holes and reinstall the cotter pin.
- 4). Set the auger belt tension. Remove the cotter pin from the tensioning chain's spring. Pull the chain until the end of the spring is pulled through the hole in the side of the clutch/idler assembly. Attach the cotter pin to the end of the spring. Loop the chain to stop it dragging on the ground.
