How to Hang Globe Light Fixtures

16
    • 1). Switch the circuit breaker off that supplies power to the old light. Turning off the breaker instead of simply turning off the light switch is safer.

    • 2). Remove the light bulb from the old fixture to access the two screws holding the fixture to the ceiling. Unscrew them and let the old light fixture hang down by the electrical wires.

    • 3). Remove the wire nuts from the light fixture wire by unscrewing them counterclockwise. A black, a white and a bare ground wire run from the old fixture to the electrical wiring in the junction box in the ceiling.

    • 4). Take the mounting strap and threaded tube for the new globe light fixture. Start the threaded tube into the threads at the center of the mounting strap. Screw the tube into the strap until it passes fully through the strap.

    • 5). Set the mounting strap and tube against the ceiling junction box. The long end of the threaded tube faces down. Align the holes in the mounting strap with the two holes in the junction box.

    • 6). Install two screws through the mounting strap and into the junction box. Tighten the screws with a regular screwdriver.

    • 7). Lift the new globe light fixture next to the ceiling junction box in order to connect the electrical wires. Connect the black-to-black, white-to-white and the two bare ground wires together using wire nuts. Put each bare end of the wires together and pointing in the same direction. Slide the wire nut over the bare ends and tighten the nut by hand until tight.

    • 8). Slide the globe base plate over the threaded tube through the plate's center hole. Push the base plate against the ceiling and install one of the tube nuts. Thread the nut against the fixture's base plate and tighten it with a pair of pliers.

    • 9). Install a bulb into each of the globe fixture's available sockets.

    • 10

Install the glass globe over the threaded tube through the center hole in the globe. Press the globe into position against the light fixture base plate.

    • 11

Thread the globe nut onto the threaded tube to secure the globe onto the fixture. If the globe nut bottoms out on the tube before tightening against the globe, remove the globe and shorten the threaded tube by loosening the nut and turning the tube clockwise. Retighten the tube nut and re-install the globe and globe nut.

Turn the circuit breaker on and test the new globe light fixture.
