They live in the Digital World, which is a parallel universe to the Earth.
The world was made from data contained in the Earth's communication network computers.
Each Digimon anime movie has a specific way for the Digimon and others to traverse between the Digital World and the Real World.
In the movie, Digimon Adventure which was a prelude to the Digimon series, no one knew how the gateway between the Digital World and the Real World was activated.
All they saw was just a split second when Digimon could travel from one to the other.
In Japan, nine Digimon anime movies have been released.
