How to Troubleshoot Maytag Performance Dryers

4
    • 1). Expect some strange sounds if you turn the dryer on after not using it for an extended period of time. Do not worry as this is normal. There may be a thumping sound the first few minutes of use, but it should subside. If a sound continues, check the front and rear edges of the dryer to make sure there are no coins, buttons, paper clips or similar items loose in the dryer.

If a thumping noise continues, open the dryer and make sure the clothing is not balled up. This can cause the dryer to jump and vibrate, thus creating more noise.

    • 2). Check to see if a household fuse has blown if the dryer displays a "L2" code on the LED screen. The "L2" code signifies there is a problem with your home's power supply. Electric dryers use two fuses, so remember to make sure both fuses in the fuse box are in the "on" position. Check the power cord to make sure it is completely inserted in the wall. Click a button for any timed dry cycle and restart the dryer.

    • 3). Remove the lint screen, clean it and replace it if your dryer displays the "AF" message. This message indicates there is a low airflow. Check the vent that runs from the back of the dryer into the wall to see if it is bent, pinched or kinked in a way that would impede airflow. If it is, straighten the vent or replace it. Remove the vent and look inside. Remove any lint or debris stuck inside and put the vent back in place. Click a button to turn on any timed dry cycle and restart the dryer.

    • 4). Consider the size of the load if you notice that the clothing is wrinkled when you remove it from the dryer. The more packed a Maytag performance dryer is, the less it is able to allow the clothing to freely tumble without wrinkling. Select the "Custom Refresh Cycle" on the dryer to allow the clothing to tumble with some water and heat to reduce wrinkling.
