Polycystic Kidney Disease & Joint Pain
- You may have one of two forms of the disease. Autosomal dominant PKD affects children and adults. Autosomal recessive PKD occurs either after birth or childhood.
- With PKD, the kidneys become enlarged because clusters of cysts. These noncancerous cysts sacs filled with fluid. They accumulate in the kidneys and cause various symptoms.
- One symptom associated with PKD, according to Medline Plus, is joint pain. With joint pain you experience soreness or mild pain where your bones meet, according to the Mayo Clinic.
- You may experience symptoms such as high blood pressure, an enlarged stomach, excessive nocturnal urination and blood in your urine. In addition, you may feel pain in your side or back.
- Your doctor may prescribe blood-pressure medications, a low-salt diet and diuretics to control your symptoms and prevent complications, according to Medline Plus.
