How to Replace a Dryer Outlet
- 1). Turn the power to the dryer outlet off at the main circuit panel. Most circuit panels are typically located in the garage or utility room.
- 2). Locate the screws holding the outlet cover and remove them with the screwdriver. Discard the cover.
- 3). Loosen the four screws, using the screwdriver, to pull the wires loose from the outlet. Loosen and remove the screws holding the outlet to the wall. Pull the outlet off the wall and away from the wiring and discard the outlet.
- 4). Insert the wiring through the back and out the front of the hole in the new dryer outlet. Use the screwdriver and screws included with the kit to affix the outlet onto the wall. Line up the hole in the outlet with the hole in the wall, and tighten the screws to secure the outlet in place.
- 5). Connect the wiring to the outlet, but secure each wire under the appropriate screw and tighten the screw down onto the wire to hold it in place. Connect the red and black (hot) wires to the two outside brass screws; the white (neutral) wire to the center, silver screw; and the bare (ground) wire to the green screw.
- 6). Place the new cover over the outlet and insert an included screw into each hole and tighten it down to secure the cover plate to the outlet.
- 7). Turn the power to the dryer outlet back on at the main circuit panel and plug the dryer in and test for power.
