How to Clean a Clogged Air Conditioner Drain
- 1). Locate the drain line and put your wet/dry vacuum next to it. Press the hose up against the drain line and secure it to the line with duct tape.
- 2). Locate the paper filter in the wet/dry vacuum and remove it. The process for removing the filter will vary with your model, so consult the manual if you are unsure how to do it. Plug the wet/dry vacuum into the closest electrical outlet.
- 3). Turn the wet/dry vacuum on for five seconds. This is long enough for it to suck out the clog. Remove the duct tape holding the hose to the drain.
- 4). Locate the access port to the drain line, which is usually on the other side of the wall from the exterior drain. If you cannot find the access port, locate the end of the drain line where it connects to the drain pan.
- 5). Set a funnel in the access port and pour 1 cup of bleach into the line. It will kill any remaining mold or algae.
- 6). Repeat the bleach treatment once a year in the spring to prevent any clog formation.
