How to Repair a Home Refrigerator
- 1). Turn off the refrigerator by unplugging it from the wall.
- 2). Check the water supply valve if your fridge has an icemaker or water dispenser. Look for the inlet valve on the back of the fridge and inspect the component for leaks. Tighten the compression nuts with a wrench to fix the leaks. Remove the copper tubing and replace it if the inlet valve still leaks.
- 3). Check to make sure the refrigerator is level by putting a carpenter's level on top of the fridge. if it is leaning, adjust the feet by sticking a screwdriver into the feet access holes at the bottom of the fridge and turning the screwdriver.
- 4). Open up the cover panel at the back of the freezer using a screwdriver to expose the drain tube. Sop up melted water then insert a tube into the drain hole. Blow air into it to remove any clogs.
- 1). Check to make sure the temperature is set to a cool temperature and has not been set too low. Your refrigerator should be between 32 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 2). Pull out the fridge and inspect the coils for excess dust or dirt. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment to remove the dust and dirt.
- 3). Remove the back panel of the fridge and vacuum the fan of the condenser to keep it running smoothly.
