How to Get Mildew Stains Out of Fabric
- 1). Scrape away any lingering mildew with a medium bristle brush. Do this outside, or at the very least over the trash can, so that the mildew can be disposed of immediately.
- 2). Place the garment outside in direct sunlight, and cover the area with regular table salt.
- 3). Cut a lemon in half, and squeeze lemon juice all over the salt.
- 4). Rub the salt and lemon into the stain with a clean cloth.
- 5). Leave the garment outside to soak in the sunshine for at least an hour.
- 6). Brush away the excess salt, and wash the garment. Add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to help eliminate the odor. Hang the garment to dry outside---avoid using the dryer.
