No Need to Sacrifice Style With Laundry Tools

18
When most of us think about the laundry room and what we need to outfit the space, the only thing that comes to mind is a washer and dryer. Certainly, those appliances are necessary (especially the washer) and the most expensive purchase. But there are plenty of other accessories that will make your laundry routine easier and leave your clothes looking better.

Gone are the days when these accessories were just functional. Today you can find dozens of stylish options to match any decor.

1. Scrub Brush for Treating Stains

Tough stains on many fabrics need a bit of scrubbing. You can purchase a neon-colored scrub brush at any dollar store or a sleek, modern scrub brush like this beauty from Karim.

Siliconezone celebrated its tenth anniversary with a line of cleaning tools created in co-operation with renowned American designer Karim Rashid. Aesthetic yet practical, this petite sculpture will take away your laundry stain anxiety. The non-slip handle comfortably fits in your hands while the soft nylon bristle head effectively exercises its cleaning power. The stainless-steel cap atop the handle removes any odors that your hands might pick up while cleaning. The silicone base is deliberately designed to collect any excess water keeping your laundry countertop clean all the time.More »

2. Clothes Shaver

With wear, clothing fibers can break and knot together to leave little balls of fuzz or pilling on the surface. It often happens on knitted items and in under arm and between the legs of trousers where there is lots of friction. The fuzz is unsightly and should be removed.

There are several types of tools that will remove the pilling including combs and battery or electricity-operated shavers. Most are pretty mundane, but not this whimsical design by Stefano Giovannoni for Alessi.

Alessi is a family owned Italian design company, founded in 1921. Giovanni Alessi, a talented sheet metal worker, produced items by hand for the table and home out of copper, brass and nickel-silver. In the mid 1940s Alessi began to work with outside designers and the current catalog is a collaboration with over 500 designers from all over the world.
Stefano Giovannoni lives and works in Milan. Since 1979 he has taught and done research at the Florence Faculty of Architecture; he is master-professor at Domus Academy in Milan and at the Università del Progetto in Reggio Emilia.More »

3. Lint Brush

Everyone gets lint on their clothes. Even if you do everything you can to reduce lint in the laundry room, it's still going to attack from time to time.

You can use sticky tape to remove lint or a sticky roller with disposable sheets, or you can feel like you have your own English butler at the ready with a Hydrea London 3 in 1 Clothes Brush.

This luxury laundry tool incorporates a clothes brush to lift matted fibers, lint remover and shoehorn. Each tool is expertly crafted from wood, ethically sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forests and carefully hand finished to create a durable yet stylish brush.More »

4. Clothespins

Even if you can't have a clothesline in your backyard, every laundry room needs some clothespins. They are handy for keeping clothes secure on a hanger or clipping socks together or making crafts with kids. You can even use them in lots of ways around the rest of the house.

You can easily find the traditional wooden ones and look-alike plastic clothespins. Or, select a modern clothespin like these made from vinyl coated wire.More »

5. Glass Storage Jars

If you make your own homemade laundry products, you'll want to show them off in an attractive container. Glass containers are perfect for showcasing your handiwork and allowing you to easily see when it is time to make more. You can recycle glass jars, use traditional storage jars or ramp-up your style with this unique glass container.
Whatever you choose, make sure to label the contents...baking soda and borax can look really similar!More »

6. Storage Boxes

7. Overhead Hanging Rack

An indoor clothesline or drying rack is nearly an essential for the laundry room. Not everything should be placed in a dryer, plus removing clothes from the dryer while still slightly damp will help prevent wrinkles and reduce ironing.

When you're ready for an indoor drying solution, don't just look at traditional laundry offerings. A modern kitchen pot rack like this one from Enclume works beautifully as a drying rack. By mounting the hammered steel rack from the ceiling, you free up floor space and your clothes will hang wrinkle free.More »
