National Parks in the State of Indiana

    • Indiana is filled with interesting places to visit. Three National Park sites and 37 National Historic Landmarks open windows into the past and adventures for today. National Parks and monuments preserve the natural beauty and history of Indiana for present and future generations to enjoy. National Parks and memorials are directly operated by the Parks Service. Historic sites such as the home of President Benjamin Harrison and the Tippecanoe Battlefield Park are managed by other entities with support from the Park Service.

    George Rogers Clark Historical National Park

    • The National Park in Vincennes, Indiana commemorates a pivotal point in American History. General George Rogers Clark defeated the forces of the British at Fort Sackville 1n 1779 and opened up the western frontier to American expansion.

      Visitors to the park enjoy exploring frontier life as they tour the park. Inside the 80 foot tall memorial giant murals depict the story of the Clark expedition as it mad its way to Fort Sackville. According to the National Park Service, special programs are available for children including the Junior Ranger Program and field trip visits are welcome.

    Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

    • Situated on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore covers 2,182 acres and is managed by National Park service Rangers. The park offers recreational and educational activities to visitors year round.

      The park offers hiking trails for people of all fitness levels as well as fishing and picnic areas. According to the National Park Service winter time hiking and cross country skiing is permitted on the trails. The Lakeshore offers educational activities for children and adults alike. Visitors can learn what life in the early 1900s was like at historic Bailly Homestead and Chellberg Farm. Ranger guided hikes and learning activities are available for groups and class field trips.

    Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial

    • Get a glimpse into the childhood of Abraham Lincoln. Tour the carefully preserved childhood home of the 16th President and see how he lived, worked and played. View a short film in the visitor's center and tour the museum where you will learn about Lincoln's parents and family.

      According to the National Park Service, the Lincoln Living Historical Farm is an authentic recreation of the kind of farm young Lincoln lived on. You can you're the buildings and watch park rangers in period clothing performing the tasks of everyday life. The park is handicap accessible and help with special needs can be arranged with the rangers at the front desk.
