Colt McCoy of the Cleveland Browns
Daniel "Colt" McCoy is the latest quarterback sensation for the Cleveland Browns. The 2009 graduate of the University of Texas is a former Heisman candidate and AP Quarterback of the Year.
High School:
McCoy attended Jim Ned High School in his hometown of Tuscola, Texas, where he lettered in football, track and basketball. He was coached by his father, Brad McCoy and acted as the punter and played free safety as well as quarterback.
Among his high school awards are two Associated Press 2A Offensive MVP awards and a first-team All-state selection.
College Days:
McCoy attended the University of Texas (Austin), where he was the starting quarterback. He led the team to their 2008 Fiesta Bowl victory over Ohio State and was a runner-up for the Heisman Trophy that year. In 2009, McCoy led Texas to a perfect 12-0 season and was named Quarterback of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press.
Colt McCoy and the Cleveland Browns:
McCoy was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2010, in the third round, as the 85th overall pick. He later signed a four-year, $5 million contract with the team. At the beginning of the 2010 season, it seemed unlikely that McCoy would see much playing time, as Cleveland already had three quarterbacks, including Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace. However, injuries to both of those players gave McCoy an opportunity to start and he led the team to victories of the 2009 Super Bowl champion, New Orleans Saints, and the division leading New England Patriots.
