How to Clean a Marine Carpet
- 1). Remove as much spilled material (food, oil, fish parts, etc.) as possible using your fingers, a spoon or a credit card, scraping it from the marine carpet fibers before it dries, if possible.
- 2). Blot the stained areas with fresh water and a rag, attempting to transfer the stain from the marine carpet onto the rag. Do not rub the stain into the carpet; gently blot it instead.
- 3). Follow the directions on a carpet stain remover if needed for tougher stains like blood, allowing the product to sit on the stain for as long as required before blotting it once again with a clean rag.
- 4). Wet the entire carpeted area with fresh water from a hose or bucket, gently brushing previously stained areas with a broom or soft-bristle brush to work up any residual stain and/or stain remover, as well as well-traveled areas. If desired, soak the carpet with a solution of warm water and a small amount of household detergent for five minutes before rinsing with clean water.
- 5). Use a shop vac, sometimes called a web/dry vacuum, to suck up the water.
