How to Clean White Wood
- 1). Dust white wood blinds with a feather duster for best results. Feathers are natural and won't create static that will attract more dust. If you don't like this old-fashioned method, there are also a number of dusters made especially for wood blinds that fit perfectly between the slats so very little extra dusting is needed. Dusting works well for dry dust.
- 2). Remove grease, grime or dirt from white wood by mixing a solution of warm water and household white vinegar at a ratio of 75 percent water and 25 percent white vinegar and applying with a clean cloth. It's important to avoid getting too much water on the blinds. Wet a clean cloth with the mixture and rub onto a slat or small area of furniture. After rubbing the dirty area clean, use a new dry cloth to wipe the area until it's dry to avoid warping the wood. Any vinegar smell will go away after an hour or two.
- 3). Clean dirt off white wood with simple cleaning soap and warm water. This method works well for those who don't like the smell of vinegar. Place a small amount of gentle cleansing soap in a small bucket of water, according to the directions on the cleansing soap, and apply to white wood with a clean cloth with gentle rubbing motions. Wipe completely dry with a clean cloth after the area is clean.
- 4). Clean and polish varnished white wood floors or furniture the green way. A natural polish can keep white wood cleaner longer. Mix a solution of 50 percent white vinegar and 50 percent vegetable oil and apply to white wood with a clean cloth. Wipe off any excess with a dry cloth. This chemical-free solution will not only clean white wood, it will keep it clean longer because it provides a barrier against dirt and grime.
