How to Grout a Gazing Ball
- 1). Select a Styrofoam ball that is slightly smaller than the size you want for a finished gazing ball. Most gazing balls are 12 inches in diameter.
- 2). Purchase mosaic tile from a craft store or old pottery from garage sales and smash it up for for your gazing ball. Arrange the tile fragments in your desired mosaic pattern. Glue each tile onto the gazing ball using silicone adhesive. Space the tiles equidistant from one another. Position the sphere onto a flower pot to dry.
- 3). Mix the grout compound in a mixing bowl using components from a grout kit. Use the plastic spatula to apply the grout to the ball, forcing the grout into the spaces between the tiles. Scrape the grout away from the surface of the tiles. Allow it to dry for 24 hours. The grout left on the tiles will look cloudy. Clean the dried grout off the tiles using a sponge.
- 4). Allow the grout left on the gazing ball to "cure" for another 24 hours.
- 5). Apply grout sealer to the grout to keep the gazing ball clean. Allow the sealer to dry completely before putting your gazing ball on display.
