How to Clean Articles Made of Silver
- 1). Arrange a sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom of a pan that is deep enough to hold water and the item(s). Set your silver on the aluminum foil, making sure that all of the silver is touching the aluminum foil. Do not stack any silver pieces on each other.
- 2). Heat two to three cups of water until boiling and pour over the silver until submerged. Sprinkle a small amount of salt over the silver and water.
- 3). Pour one cup of baking soda over the water and salt mixture. Stir slightly to ensure that the salt and baking soda dissolves.
- 4). Allow the silver to soak in the mixture for approximately 30 minutes. Let the water cool completely. The tarnish should be removed at this point.
- 5). Lift the silver item(s) out of the water and polish with a clean, soft cloth. Do not allow silver to soak in the water for an extended period of time, as doing so may damage the metal.
