How to Remove Rust Spots on a Quilt
- 1). Lay the quilt on a large flat surface. Mentally divide the quilt into imaginary quarters. Find all the spots that need to be removed by searching each square thoroughly.
- 2). Start at one end of the quilt. Gently massage salt into each spot. Work your way up the quilt slowly doing one quarter at a time. Do this until you have treated all the stains.
- 3). Squeeze some freshly squeezed lemon juice onto a cloth. Rub the lemon juice over the salt on the rust stains. Do this gently and work into the stains for about a minute or two up the quilt until all stains are covered with salt and rubbed in with lemon juice.
- 4). Lay the sheet out in the sun. Place quilt in the sun on the sheet to dry. If all the stains are gone, clean the quilt as you normally would. If the stains are not gone and the quilt would be unusable without removing the stains, go to the next step.
- 5). Mix 4 tsp. of cream of tartar in one pint of water in a large saucepan. Bring this to a boil. Immerse the quilt into the liquid until the stain in removed. Rinse thoroughly and then clean as you normally would.
