Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, may just be the water park capital of the U.S., considering the fact that many of its hotels feature on-site water parks, lazy rivers and all manner of splashing fun, for both kids and adults. This oceanfront resort, which houses 520 units including condominiums, features six indoor and outdoor pools, three lazy rivers that meander indoors and outdoors, and kiddie pools. The resort is set to open two, three-story water slides in 2010. Compass Cove is actually made up of three separate high-rise hotels--the Pinnacle Tower, the Mariner Tower and the Schooner Building--all offering standard hotel rooms, efficiency units and one-, two- and three-bedroom condos.

Dunes Village Resort is a large oceanfront hotel that has both an outdoor water park and a 15,000-square-foot indoor water park. The two water parks feature a 250-foot-long river ride, indoor water slides that can accommodate adults, an oceanfront outdoor swimming pool and deck, lots of hot tubs and kiddie pools, and wet decks. Rooms at Dunes Village are mostly suites, and you can book two-, three- and four-bedroom units. Dunes Village also provides dozens of outdoor and indoor games, including tennis, basketball, billiards, ping pong, and foosball. For the adults, there's a spa on the grounds as well.

This huge resort includes both the oceanfront Breakers Resort and the Breakers Paradise Tower next door, part of a largely pedestrian area with shops, parks and restaurants. The Breakers offers travelers one-, two- and three-bedroom condominiums, along with standard guest rooms. A special feature of the Breakers is that its water park, which consists of a 418-foot lazy river, several different pools, and whirlpools, is enclosed during the cooler months so that it can be used year-round. Kids will love the resort's interactive pirate ship water play area while their parents sun themselves on the outdoor resort deck. The Breakers has 700 feet of oceanfront property.

The Landmark Resort is a 570-room resort on the ocean featuring both indoor and outdoor water features. Indoors, the resort has a large pool with a center fountain, five whirlpools, and a lazy river that meanders both indoors through the resort and outdoors. Outside at the Landmark, there are an oceanfront pool and whirlpool, a lazy river ride, a wading pool with waterfalls and tunnels, and a poolside bar. The resort also has its own nine-hole miniature golf course that winds its way around the pools. An enclosed walkway from the resort takes you over Ocean Boulevard to the beach. At the Landmark, you can book standard guest rooms, efficiencies with kitchens, and even three-bedroom penthouse suites. Many have oceanfront balconies. There are three restaurants on site.
