How to Caulk Cracked Hardy Plank
- 1). Dampen a dry rag with denatured alcohol and wipe the area surrounding the crack. This cleans all visible dirt and residue from the surface and prepares a clear foundation for caulking.
- 2). Cut the plastic tip on a tube of silicone caulk. Break the seal within the nozzle using a stiff metal wire or nail. Some caulking guns come equipped with a puncturing tool for this purpose.
- 3). Secure the tube into a caulking gun. For the best application, use a gun that has smooth trigger and no-drip features.
- 4). Insert the tip of the caulking tube into the crack in the HardiPlank. Holding the gun at a 45-degree angle, squeeze the trigger to dispense the silicone.
- 5). Draw the gun smoothly along the siding as it fills the crack. Wipe the excess caulk from the plank with a dry rag.
- 6). Allow the sealant to cure for 24 hours.
