Eliminate Oil Stains on Auto Carpet
- 1). Scoop up any oil stain substance from the auto carpet using a spoon. Remove as much substance as possible and discard it in a trash bag.
- 2). Cover the oil stain with cornstarch and allow the cornstarch to sit for at least 30 minutes. Cornstarch soaks up oil residue, leaving less behind for you to clean.

Vacuum the cornstarch from the auto carpet. If the oil stain is very large and the appearance of grease is still very predominant, apply more cornstarch and leave it for an hour before vacuuming. - 4). Pour dry-cleaning solvent onto a clean cloth, using enough solvent to make the cloth damp, not soaked. Dab at the remaining oil stain on the auto carpet, working from the exterior of the stain in toward the middle. Apply more dry-cleaning solvent, as needed, and move to a clean portion of the cloth to continue to blot up the remaining oil stain.
- 5). Mix 1/4 tsp. mild hand dish-washing liquid and 1 cup water in a bowl. Saturate a clean cloth with the soapy solution and wring out the excess moisture. Blot the remaining oil stain from the auto carpet with the detergent solution.

Press another clean, dry cloth into the auto carpet at the site of the oil stain to wick up the soap solution and remaining oil. Dampen another clean cloth with lukewarm water and rinse the carpet. - 7). Blot up excess moisture then roll down the windows, if possible, and allow the carpet to air dry fully.
