  Toledo sits in northern Ohio, near Lake Erie and the Michigan border. Toledo Museum of Art

• A huge collection of artwork awaits you at this facility, which spans seven buildings spread across 36 acres. This includes 45 galleries, a family center and a concert hall. The museum boasts more than 30,000 works of art from diverse cultures and styles.
  
  The works of famous artists are on display, including Monet, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Picasso, Matisse and Cezanne.
  
  The museum is free, although you may have to purchase a ticket to see some special exhibits and events. Art enthusiasts can register for classes and workshops that give people of all ages hands-on experience creating art. The costs vary.

Toledo Mud Hens

• Enjoy the great outdoors and the great American pastime when you watch this Triple-A baseball team play. The team's 2010 schedule included games from April through September. The Mud Hens play at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo, which opened in 2002 and seats almost 9,000 fans. The stadium includes large video screens, a children's play area and a souvenir store.

Toledo Zoo

  Bears, hippos, elephants, sharks, orangutans and seals are some of the more than 6,000 creatures you can see at the Toledo Zoo. The zoo classifies its animals in seven main categories: amphibians, aquarium animals, birds, conservation animals, insects and spiders, mammals, and reptiles.
  
  Activities at the facility include face painting, a children's zoo, carousel rides, a railway and an opportunity to feed giraffes. The zoo also offers summer concerts.
  
  If you need help getting around the zoo, you can rent a motorized scooter, wheelchair, stroller or wagon. Concession stands at the zoo offer sandwiches, salads, burgers, hot dogs and ice cream. You can also bring your own food and beverages, but no glass containers or alcoholic beverages are allowed.
  
  The Toledo Zoo is open daily except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. It is a smoke-free facility.

Toledo Botanical Garden

• If you enjoy exploring the beauty of nature, a stop at the Toledo Botanical Garden is for you. The garden's website describes it as a "museum for plants." The garden spans more than 60 acres and features annuals, perennials and sculptures. Several local organizations have a presence at the garden and share their knowledge of pottery, photography and other topics with visitors.
  
  You can explore more than a dozen areas at the park, including hosta and daylily collections, rose and dahlia gardens, and azaleas and rhododendron displays.
  
  Special events include plant sales and summer jazz concerts. You can even have your wedding at the garden for a fee.
  
  The garden offers free admission year-round, with the exception of some special events. It is a handicapped-accessible facility.
