How to Remove Tar From White Pants

12
    • 1). Try to scrape away as much of the tar as you can. Use a spoon or dull side of a knife. Don't spread the tar in the process.

    • 2). Spray a dry cleaning solvent that contains the chemicals perchloroethylene or trichloroethylene on the tar, according to Ohio State University. If it isn't a spray, apply the cleaner to a sponge or rag and then dab it on.

    • 3). Pour a little bit of heavy-duty liquid laundry detergent on top of the tar as well, and rub the stain vigorously with a clean rag. This should get the rest of the tar off and some of the stain. However, some of the stain will likely still be there and be quite noticeable, especially on white clothing.

    • 4). Wash the white pants in hot water. If the tag states that it's safe for hot water, use bleach to remove the stain. Use an amount of bleach as directed on the label instructions. Wash again if necessary.
