East End: A Unique Locally Focused Orlando Marketplace

10
There's a thriving locavore scene in Orlando, where so many consumers try to make conscientious decisions about what they buy, eat and drink, and support with their dollars. The Audubon Park Garden District, noted for being free of chains and home to many favorite independent small businesses, has long been a central neighborhood for this culture.

It's a perfect location for a place like East End Market.

Since opening in November 2013, the two-story marketplace has become a hub for local artisan goods and foods, craft beverages, culinary and social entrepreneurship, and community.

Here's a look at the vendors and other offerings at East End Market.

Food and Beverage Merchants

• Fatto in Casa, Italian for “homemade,” offers fresh sweet and savory Italian foods. Delivery, shipping and catering are available, as are daily Italian cooking classes.

• Houndstooth Sauce Company provides artisanal sauces, dressings and marinades. If you're unsure, find out how they taste by trying them on the salads or sandwiches prepared on site.

• Kappo is a seven-seat omakase bar serving some of the best sushi in Orlando. The dishes are always fresh, bursting with flavor and beautifully put together in front of you.

• La Femme du Fromage sells a variety of hard-to-find handcrafted cheeses. Owner Tonda Corrente also teaches fun and informative wine-and-cheese pairing classes.

• Lineage is a craft coffee roaster. It takes its beans, sourcing, roasting process and beverage preparation seriously, but it's still a fun place to learn about and drink coffee.

• Local Roots Farm Store carries locally sourced meats, produce, eggs, honey, craft beer, wine, natural soaps and cleaners, and other provisions.

• Olde Hearth Bread Company was a pioneer in Orlando's contemporary artisan breads market. It sells freshly baked goods made without artificial flavors or preservatives.

• Skyebird Juice Bar and Experimental Kitchen prepares a variety of smoothies, juices, kombucha and a raw-food menu.

• Txokos, pronounced cho-kos, is a full-service restaurant serving seasonally driven Basque-inspired cuisine, relying heavily on produce grown in East End Market's own garden out front.

Other East End Market Offerings

The marketplace is about more than selling food, goods and services. Community-focused events and classes go on all the time, covering a broad range of interests, including but not limited to culinary, food growing, food entrepreneurship, fitness and literary.

A well-equipped professional kitchen is affordably available to rent. Local food entrepreneurs use the space to prepare foods and develop and test new concepts, all in accordance with food preparation laws. East End Market merchants also use the kitchen to prepare their offerings.

There's also a beautiful, customizable event space available for rent, known as The Audubon Park Exchange. Its rustic design, made with a good deal of sustainable and reclaimed materials, complements the ethos of the marketplace, its patrons and its merchants. A demonstration kitchen is attached to the venue for culinary events.
