How to Remove a Toilet Bowl From the Floor
- 1). Turn off the water to the house at the source and turn off the water feed lines to the toilet.
- 2). Flush the toilet several times until water no longer drains from it. If there is still water left in the bowl or the back tank, then remove it first with a small cup into a bucket, and then soak up the rest with a sponge. Wear rubber gloves during this step.
- 3). Unscrew the water feed lines from the back of the tank.
- 4). Run a putty knife around the base of the toilet to remove any caulk that may be helping to hold the toilet in place.
- 5). Unscrew the anchor bolt caps to expose the anchor bolts and the nuts that are holding the toilet in place.
- 6). Pour lubricant on the anchor bolts and nuts, and wait 15 minutes.
- 7). Unscrew the anchor nuts slowly using a vice grip. If the bolt is especially rusty then clean it with a wire brush and apply more lubricant until the nut turns.
- 8). Lift the toilet straight up and off the anchor bolts. This needs to be done by two people on either side of the toilet and working together to lift. You may need to rock the toilet slightly to break the deposits and build-ups that may be holding it in place.
