      Families vacationing in Hawaii will not have to look far to find fun things to do. The 50th state has an abundance of parks, beaches, activities and entertainment venues for all. The inviting temperatures on the islands, 75 to 85 degrees all year, encourage families to venture outdoors and explore all Hawaii has to offer. Choose an island--Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui or Hawaii--and set forth on an family adventure full of fun.

    Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

    • Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is one of Hawaii's premier attractions. Visitors come from all seven continents to witness the most active volcanoes in the world. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has two live volcanoes on the property. Maunaloa last erupted in 1984, and Kilauea is the world's most active volcano and has continuously erupted since 1983. Just off the southern coast of the Big Island, where Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is located, the volcano Loihi is located underwater. This volcano has been erupting since 1996. Guests can bike, hike and even camp at the park.

    Whale-Watching Tours

    • Families visiting Hawaii December through May have an opportunity to go whale watching. Visitors can see the 450-ton mammals up close as they come home to Hawaii to mate and give birth. Taking a whale-watching tour will get families within 100 yards of these gentle giants. The endangered humpback whales are known to lift their bodies into the air and mesmerize spectators. Male humpback whales can be heard singing in the ocean waters. Whale-watching tours are available on all of the islands, with Maui and the Big Island (Hawaii) having the more paramount sightings.

    Surfing

    • Hawaii is know for surfing. "Surfing the big wave" originated in Hawaii in the 1950s. Surfers would come to Hawaii in the winter and try to conquer the biggest waves in the ocean. Families can watch surfers at any of the beaches. The North Shore of Oahu is renowned for the surfing atmosphere. Families wishing to get a breathtaking view of surfers can try Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and the Banzai Pipeline, After watching spectacular surfers, some family members may want to give surfing a try. Head down to Waikiki Beach to take a lesson. Although Waikiki Beach is highly recommended for first-time surfers, surfing lessons are given at almost every beach.
