Nudist resorts and nude beaches in New England? Yes!

Rhode Islander and first Survivor champ Richard Hatch made going naked on national TV look easy. Of course, parading around in the buff on a remote island in front of seven fellow castaways you met a week or so ago (and a few pesky cameramen) is one thing. Heading for less-than-tropical New England to take it all off in front of dozens of total strangers is another.

Still, whether you're a seasoned nudist or you've wanted to experience the freedom of clothing optional recreation for the first time, New England does offer a number of campgrounds, resorts and inns that cater to the less than fully clothed.

Mind you, I've never visited any of them. Heck--I even passed on a dare to write this article in the nude! Definitely call ahead to make reservations and to inquire about policies (most don't allow cameras, for example, and some require membership). The nudist season in New England is largely limited to the summer months, but you will find a few options for indoor nude vacationing in the colder months, as well.

1. Berkshire Vista Nudist Resort

This nude resort and campground welcomes nude recreation newbies and offers a sunning lawn, pool deck and solar heated pool, hot tubs, sauna, free WiFi, game room, children's playground, hiking trails, snack bar, deck bar, tennis, table tennis, a clubhouse with a restaurant, a bar and evening dances. The resort is open May 1 through Columbus Day.

2. Cedar Waters Village Nudist Park
24 Smoke Street, Nottingam, New Hampshire, 603-679-2036

Established in 1950, Cedar Waters Village claims the title of New England's largest private nudist park. The 350-acre, wooded property with a 20-acre lake offers privacy and recreational possibilities including sunbathing, swimming, sailing, fishing, canoeing, windsurfing, tennis, volleyball, shuffleboard and horseshoes. Facilities include a sauna bath, hot tubs, hot showers, tenting and RV sites, rental cabins, a chapel, a clubhouse and a lakeside restaurant open on weekends.

3. Coventry Club & Resort
468 Beebe Hill Road, Milton, Vermont, 802-893-7773

Open May through September, this nudist resort in the Champlain Valley region of Vermont offers tent and RV camping options, or stay in a rental cabin. The property is situated on a 50-acre scenic lake and has its own nude beach.

4. Dyer Woods Nudist Campground
114 Johnson Road, Foster, Rhode Island, 401-397-3007

Celebrating its 50th season in 2015, Dyer Woods is a family-oriented nudist campground located on the site of an old, 200-acre farm. "You have nothing to lose but your hangups," is their advice to first-time visitors. Facilities include a grassy sunbathing area, swimming pond (when lifeguard is available), hot tub, sauna, walking trails and more. Rentals are available for those who do not have their own tent, camper or RV. Day visitors are also welcome.

5. Richmond Sauna Bed & Breakfast

For just $10 per day, you'll have access to this clothing-optional recreation spot's heated outdoor pool and sunbathing areas. Just leave your inhibitions at home, and bring a towel! Open year-round, this Maine woods hideaway also offers a wood-fired sauna, hot tub and bed & breakfast accommodations for additional fees. Four guest rooms are available in the Federal-style 1831 captain's house, or reserve the two-room efficiency apartment.
