Can You Acid Stain Brick?
- If you have extra bricks, test the acid cleaner or stain on one of them first. If not, do a patch test somewhere on the wall where it will not be obvious, should the test prove the acid will harm the appearance of the brick. After doing the test, be sure to give the brick plenty of drying time to fully see the effects of using acid on masonry.
The better solution is to use non-acid stains approved for bricks. The use of these products can help make mismatched bricks match the rest of the wall. As well, masonry stain can rejuvenate old, faded bricks. Or it can be used to completely change the color of bricks, giving an old building a new look.
In shopping for a masonry stain, consider using non-toxic, environmentally friendly stains.
