How to Visit Capacon State Park in West Virgina
- 1). Bring along a fishing pole and cast for trout, bass, catfish and bluegill in the Capacon State Park Lake or the reservoir. Make sure you have a valid fishing license with the proper trout stamp for anyone 15 years old and older or buy a short-term license from the Capacon Lodge. The Potomac and Capacon Rivers are also nearby for other fishing opportunities.
- 2). Play golf at Capacon State Park’s 18-hole course laid out along the hills and surrounded by forest. The course offers cart rentals, a pro shop, snack bar and locker area. Reduced fees are available for twilight hours, 9-hole playing, off-season and mid-week playing.
- 3). Visit the State Park between Memorial Day and Labor Day and sign up for a class on how to make Capacon crafts, learn about nature and recreation programs, or hone up on your primitive camping skills. Check with the Lodge headquarters (304) 258-1022 for a current list of events and programs.

Stay in one of the Capacon State Park cabins. Modern 4- to 8-person cabins are rentable year-round, and the bungalows and standard log cabins located in a more remote area further up the mountain are rentable from April through November. All cabins have heating and cooling capabilities and fully stocked amenities. - 5). Go horseback riding at Capacon State Park where the Triple C Outfitters stable offers one hour guided trail rides, 3-hour lunch rides, day trips, overnight excursions and moonlight rides throughout the summer months for minimum group sizes. The stables are open weekends only from September to November and closed until April. Call (304) 258-1022, extension 170, to make reservations in advance.
- 6). Have a family picnic or party at the picnic grounds, which have lots of tables to choose from, outdoor grill areas to cook on and pavilions for protection against the weather. There are 8 shelters available for rent with seating from 6 to 100 people, and with or without electricity.

Visit Capacon during the summer months and enjoy the warm waters of Capacon Lake by swimming and playing on the white silica sand beach or renting paddle and rowboats for a ride around the lake looking for fish and wildlife. - 8). Reserve the Ole’ Inn for yourself or an entire party of 25 on a special occasion that deserves a rustic colonial setting with a pampered touch that only Capacon can provide.
- 9). Go hiking at Capacon State Park on any one of the 20 miles of trails found throughout the park, designed for different ability levels. Get a map at the Capacon Lodge headquarters for trail distances, estimated hiking times and terrain elevations.

Play tennis or basketball at the courts found near the picnic and swimming areas. A small playground is nearby for the little kids to play on as well. - 11
Brush up on your hunting skills and practice shooting at the 3-D archery range for 3-D native West Virginia wildlife or shoot trap year-round. The archery range charges by the hour and trap fees are for $25 a round. Make reservations in advance for both activities. No hunting licenses are required. - 12
