Through federal and state conservation efforts, much of its banks and surrounding countryside have remained untouched by development. The quaint village of Lake George is home to a large number of cultural and historic sites, lakeside shops, restaurants and nightclubs. Numerous sandy beaches, boat rental and parasailing are also available, among other recreational activities.

The Hall of Fame has a variety of exhibitions and annual events commemorating the legends of the game and the long history of "America's Pastime." Visitors can view interactive exhibits, view jerseys and equipment from throughout the game's history and even take in a ballgame at Doubleday Field.
