Melt and Pour Method

• 1). Choose a melt and pour soap base. These bases are made from glycerin and can be found at arts and crafts stores. Melt and pour bases come in many varieties, like goat's milk, honey and aloe vera. Check the label to verify that no SLS is used in the base.
  
  
• 2). Cut the base into chunks and melt in a double boiler. Bring the water to a boil, add the soap base and cover. It can take 10 to 15 minutes for the soap to melt. Be sure to keep an eye on the base while it is melting. You can also use the microwave to melt the base. Place the chunks in a microwave-safe bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Microwave for one minute and stir until melted.
  
  
• 3). Remove the soap base from the heat. Add any essential oils, fragrances, herbs or spices of your choosing and stir until well mixed.
  
  
• 4). Allow the soap to cool slightly. Continue stirring as it cools.
  
  
• 5). Pour the soap into the mold of your choosing. Spray the top of the mold with rubbing alcohol to help eliminate any bubbles. Purchase molds at an arts and crafts store or use household items like muffin tins, loaf pans and ice cube trays. Choose molds made from plastic, wood or cardboard and avoid tin and aluminum.
  
  
• 6). Allow the soap to harden completely. Remove the soap from the mold.
