How to Remove Animal Odors From a Carpet
- 1). Pick up any solid animal waste from your carpet with paper towels.
- 2). Press firmly with a wad of paper towels to remove liquid animal waste from your carpet.
- 3). Turn off all lights and shine a black light over your carpet. This allows you find traces of animal waste, including urine, feces and vomit.
- 4). Trace any animal waste with chalk.
- 5). Soak all marked areas in an enzyme-based cleaner, which breaks down animal waste and odors and discourages your pet from soiling the carpet in that area again.
- 6). Let the cleaner sit for several hours or for as long as the label instructs.
- 7). Press firmly with a wad of paper towels to remove remaining cleaner. Let the rest air-dry.
- 8). Vacuum the carpet once it's dry to remove hair and dander that could be contributing to the animal odor.
