Fire Place Cleaning
- 1). Allow the fireplace to completely cool. Place drop cloths around the fireplace to prevent soiling the flooring.
- 2). Sweep up accumulated dirt and soot ash with a whisk broom. Transfer the debris into a metal pail, using a fireplace shovel. Dump the contents of the pail outside and away from the house.
- 3). Mix equal parts of warm water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the solution liberally onto both sides of the glass doors.
- 4). Wipe the glass with a microfiber cloth to remove soot and debris. Buff the glass with a clean microfiber cloth to add shine.
- 5). Fill a plastic bucket with 1 gallon of warm water. Add 1/2 cup of trisodium phosphate and 1 oz. of chlorine bleach to the water. Wear work gloves to protect your skin from the chemicals.
- 6). Scrub with fireplace hearth and walls with the solution and a nylon scrub brush. Remove all dirt, grime and residue from the porous surfaces.
- 7). Fill another plastic bucket with fresh water. Rinse the fireplace hearth and walls with the water, using a sponge. Apply water to the surfaces until all dirt, grime and residue are completely rinsed off.
- 8). Dry the fireplace surfaces with thick towels. Fold up the dirty drop cloths, and remove them from the area.
