How to Remove Gum From a Down Comforter
- 1). Place ice cubes in a plastic bag, and lay the bag on top of the gum on your down comforter. Leave the ice bag on the surface until the gum hardens.
- 2). Scrape the hardened gum from the comforter with the edge of a credit card. Gently pry the gum from the fabric. If the gum becomes soft again, reapply the ice bag, then scrape off the rest of the solid gum material.
- 3). Spray an aerosol pretreatment spray on the site of the gum. Let the petroleum-based spray sit on the surface of the comforter 10 minutes to loosen gum residue.
- 4). Dampen a clean cloth with water, and blot the site of the gum to lift the loosened residue. Cover the area with baby powder to wick out the oil from the pretreatment spray. Leave the powder on the comforter for an hour before vacuuming it off.
- 5). Dampen a clean cloth with dry-cleaning solvent. Sponge the comforter to remove any stain from the gum. Work from the outer edge of the stain in toward the middle, and continue to blot until the stain is lifted.
- 6). Hang your comforter to dry, and open windows to aid in the drying process.
