North Beach, San Francisco, is located roughly from Broadway to Lombard and Grant to Taylor street. The area is also called Little Italy as it was once populated by the Italian immigrants from Genoa and Sicily who founded the local fishing industry. Columbus Avenue, North Beach's main thoroughfare, and nearby side streets offer lots of moderately priced family-style Italian restaurants and cafes. The atmosphere is very much Mediterranean. - The restaurant's polished décor includes deep mahogany walls, plush leather booths, Art Deco chandeliers and hundreds of black-and-white photographs of Joe DiMaggio who grew up in the city. The restaurant offers elegant and upscale dining but the space accommodates all sorts of diners. The booth can easily fit a family of four and the atmosphere is fun.

There is no back kitchen so you can watch the waitress make your drinks and the food coming out of a big fire oven. You can have a seat at the funky wooden counter or get the sandwiches to go, to enjoy them in Washington Park across the street. Staff is very friendly and efficient.
